My mom's Cruiser, which has already been hemorrhaging money in the form of low gas mileage, premium fuel, tires, belts, and misc repairs just completely stopped working. Took it to a shop and they say the PCM is dead. How much for a new one?
$1100. For an '05 PT Cruiser GT.
What.
In the meantime she's driving a Chevy Sonic, which I hope to get her to buy (or a V6 Camaro) when she's done wasting time with the bitch basket.
Seriously though, I'm gonna need to look at the statement that says $1100 is a fair price, because that seems like bullshit, even if it includes diagnostics, reprogramming, shipping, installation, etc. A PCM for my car is $200, programming is $100 for an HPTuners credit, and installation takes ~5 minutes and requires a screwdriver and socket wrench.

See about a refurb from a place online.
That is pretty GD ludicrous to me.
Edit:
ORRRRRR
Look for a mail-away tune and send this as a core.

Same engine as the Neon SRT-4. Can be lots of fun.

Yeah, I'm hoping it's not too late for her to tell them to shove it, but I fear they've probably already ordered it.

It's insanely fun, though the cabriolet chassis is floppier than a floppy thing.

I had a rental Turbo GT once. The amount of gas they use is just staggering.

As a kid my family had a 2gen Montero. It worked great until the PCM actually melted.
